Re: When to re-pot butia seedling
Thanks for the advice. I've re-potted my butia into a bigger pot and while I was on I re-potted both my trachycarpus nainital seedlings.

Plant DNA manipulation
I was just wondering, is it possible for scientists to manipulate a plants DNA to make it more hardy etc?
Scientists can manipulate humans DNA to select things like sex, hair colour and eye colour but can they genetically modify a plants DNA to help them cope with drought or cold etc?

Re: Hello from South Yorkshire
You have a lovely looking garden there. That butia looked amazing, Its a shame it didn't make it. What temperatures did it get down to where you live in winter 2010/11?

Re: cordylines still alive in Sunderland!
I live in Sunderland and after the winter of 2010/11 alot of cordylines did die back to the ground but there were alot that were unscathed. The ones that I've noticed that are still alive do have wide leaves but also have thick trunks. It wasn't just cordylines in certain areas that survived because...

It's a butia capitata.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, what I meant was it's in a pot that is 8cm wide and it is about 13cm deep.
Thanks for the advice ness, Yes I can see some roots at the bottom of the pot.

Re: When to re-pot butia seedling
I can't upload pics on the site because I don't have the Internet in at the moment. I've been using my iPhone to use the site. The only thing I would be able to do would be to e-mail you a pic from my phone. Yes it came in a 8cm pot which is pretty deep. I've been trying to keep the compost moist bu...

When to re-pot butia seedling
Hi I have a butia seedling which I bought off eBay in an 8 cm deep pot. I'm not sure how old it is but it has had atleast 3 leaves removed that I can see and it has two fully grown leaves and one about halfway through which is growing but slowly. My question is, will it need re-potting, what size po...

Hello from sunderland
Hello everyone. I've just joined the site and thought I would introduce myself. I'm Adam from Sunderland and I love tropical plants, especially palms. I've recently bought my own house with front and rear gardens and I've recently completely stripped the rear garden of all bushes and re-landscaped a...
