Usual resolution for me... no more plants - I already have too many, too many for the space and too many to look after.
I never seem to learn though.

Re: Livistona chinensis
That's correct and you have to be lucky with a Washy as well, larger ones stand a better chance of survival outside.doncasterpalmguy123 wrote:They're apparently as hardy as washingtonia robusta.
Daves one is an enigma, mine comes inside overwinter.

Re: Livistona chinensis
I have killed a few, they are not hardy...
Not very common because they don't survive over winter, beautiful plants though.
Sorry to be so pessimistic............

Re: Dragon fruit cacti (pitaya) surviving outside!!!
Me again... I have had them growing for years in baskets in the conservatory, had the plants before I knew what a dragon fruit was. Had fruits start to form but never let them mature, may let a few go this time as its flowering at the moment. Never kept them outside as I assumed it to be a no hoper ...

Re: Any other citrus growers?
They are all potted but some of pots are quite big, they come inside the conservatory for the winter. The lemon is about 4' and bushy, kumquat is a 6' standard, both are fruiting size. Your lemon will need to be trained & pruned, you'll have to decide what structure you want and act accordingly,...

Re: Any other citrus growers?
Me, I grow citrus!
Aspirations to grow the fruit to make marmalade or lemoncurd with, its a personal challenge.
Have a lemon, a kumqat & kaffir lime tree, but that is mostly for the leaves in Thai curries.
On the look out for a calamondin orange but at a reasonable price.... one day.

Re: Philodendron bipinnatifidium
I bought an immature three leaf Philly in 1985, still have it and like said before they grow huge. Its an impressive plant, nigh in impossible to kill but after all these years, its like part of the furniture. Spends the summer outside and then does a tour inside, by spring its looking like it needs...

Re: nepenthes outdoors
Not confident enough yet to buy them yet, but wouldn't mind growing them from seed. You'd be better to buy one, they take seven years from seed. Had a few, killed most of them. The current specimen survives on my kitchen windowsill, grows leaves, sometimes pitchers start to form but never mature. :(

Re: Frost - SUB ZERO 2013/14 discussion
My treeferns are all still outside, fronds aren't frosted and they are still pushing out new croziers, Cyatheas included.
T-rexs still have their leaves as well, so far so good I am not complaining.

Mine are still scented, in the conservatory and we have plenty of flowers.
