Top Banana's Bodnant trees are Monterey Pine Pinus radiata.

Barrie's is Douglas-fir Pseudotsuga menziesii.

Sarajevo will be too cold for Pinus pinea. Further down towards the coast, very easy at Dubrovnik, and probably hardy at Mostar, but not up at 500m altitude in Sarajevo. Sorry!

If you want pines with edible seeds, try Pinus monophylla or Pinus edulis.

Just joined after finding this thread on google . . . a few thoughts: Is Phoenix canariensis really hardy in Britain? - I'd say the jury still has to be out. We can't say for sure until there's been another winter like 1981/82 (which I'm old enough to remember!), or maybe even 1962/63 (which I'm not...
