The best spicatum?
I just thought I'd post a pic of the last flower on my Hedychium spicatum 'PB 57188': http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/9233/hedychiumpbonre5.th.jpg http://img518.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif Its a great form of spicatum, with a light scent and a subtle but in my opinion a very attractive inflore...

Re: Dividing Hedychiums
Spring is indeed the best time to move/divide Hedychiums, when they're breaking dormancy and producing new shoots they'll grow away and establish quickly.
If you do it in the Autumn there is a higher chance of rot setting in-they may be fine, but in my opinion it's better to wait.

Re: Hedychium 'Corelli'
Very interesting post DaveP, some stronger colours would be an exciting addition to the range of densiflorum available. How is the scent on the ones you have developed. Do you think there would be anything to be gained by crossing with some of the other large flowered hybrids that also relatively bl...

Chad, my Sorung is just going over-both it and Stephen are great, and for me flower a few weeks earlier than Assam orange whose first spike is just opening.

Re: Maurellii - successfully over-wintered outside
Cool spring/early summer is the major hurdle here. Many plants can make it through the winter but then are relatively slow to get going.
Due to a lack of space, I tend to leave the likes of Cannas in the ground over winter, then pot them up in spring and add heat to get them going.

Re: Maurellii - successfully over-wintered outside
I'd a potted one survive unprotected with no winter sun over winter 06/07, but sadly it didn't make it through last (milder) winter planted in the gound.

Stunning pics Mark, I couldn't see much wrong with any of you bamboos.
It's great to see them with ample room to spread into such substantial and impressive clumps.
