Japanese Blood Grass

I read that it is difficult to keep blood grass. I'm not sure exactly what conditions it likes but we had one and it died. It was in an area with lots of other plants, some quite tender but they all survived and the blood grass didn't.

Hello. Sounds like a nice mix. We have a exotic / tropical style in one small area but ours isn't jungle. we also have arid / Mediterranean areas. Do you have a greenhouse or somewhere to keep tender plants in winter?

Copper beech hedging

I was going to suggest laurel but I hadn't looked up how they cope with clay. We started filling gaps in an older hedge with mature root balled laurel but then the neighbour put up a fence. The laurel is a good backdrop and I don't think it detracts from our cottage border which has been changed to ...

Copper beech hedging

We have some beech in our mixed native hedging. We planted single row at the required spacing but I wished we had done a double staggered row to make it more solid close to the ground. We started with bare root which were just single stems, no branching. We trimmed hard each year so they grew bushy....

Spanish Moss.

hanks Chez, Unfortunately I don't do fakebook but I'm sure it will help others. Why not open 'an account' just to view? I only joined years ago because it was a free way of connecting a group of us who share a hobby. I now post a lot in hobby groups but very little on my own 'account' / page. It ha...

Keen Newbie from the Midlands

I'm just general tropical look and have acers yuccas and bananas too, so it's quite mixed really. Trachys are my favourites but struggling to find them for a decent price since the Defra import ban. I normally use eBay but there's not many sellers near to me. Contact Nigel at Hardy Palms. He doesn'...

Spanish Moss.

I was recently on the IPS site and they were talking about Spanish moss. I thought it looked a bit jungle like, can it be grown in this country? If so does any one know were to buy it from. Thanks Jason. There have been people talking about it on Facebook tropical groups last year. A guy sells it v...

Hello. We don't have any shade so struggle to grow some plants. What look are you going for? Is it jungle or just general tropical style?

High Nitrogen Feeding

We are in a windy locations so we need growth to be strong not sappy. We just use general purpose feed every few weeks to monthly via an attachment on the end of the hose in the growing season. We have had plants in the ground for many years without mulching because we have membrane and stones and p...

Tetrapanax help!

It has like a downy covering on it, if thats what you mean. Soft young growth can easily get nipped by frost. Just cut it off and it will grow more leaves. If the growing tip gets damaged cut it off and it will shoot from the side. In our neck of the woods a large T rex in a pot approx 5L is about £...

What do you think is affordable? Some unusual seeds are quite expensive and you may only get a few in a packet. We have been growing a lot from seed and sold the excess plants to go towards more seed and gas to heat the polytunnel. Plants are heavy to post so will probably cost anything from small t...

Parrot's.

Clipping wings is painful for birds. Instead you should keep them in cage. The wing clipping of birds as I know it is not painful. Its about as painful as having your hair or nails trimmed. We used to have to do our geese as they used to fly out but somehow couldn't work out how to get in. The woul...
