does everyone chop the whole stem to the ground next spring/winter, if left would it grow taller is my question???

i am after a tree that i can pollard and have a huge one stem big foilage like the paulonia tree. anyone got any pics of the catalpa bignoides were it has been stooled. or anyone think of some other big foilage trees.

mines doing ok, still not as big as me, but i want it sky heigh, so would i leave it the following year if i want it taller?
