What I have noticed is that while appearing to have survived looking quite healthy, there was no growth at all
cuttting through the trunk? I could see the roller was black but the outer leaves looked good, but the plant was dead. This was from past attempts at keeping them whole, intact

Re: Agave attenuatta got too big what to do
The top may not root if you were to cut it off now, NBD. You'll be much more successful in April or May. If you keep the pups at the bottom this may weaken the production of new plantlets up the stem. I'd be inclined to cut the stem right back to the pups and allow that to become more bushy and cut...

Re: Alocasia robusta.
It has tropical rainforest requirements, and they struggle to grow this even in Florida. LariAnn Garner is working on this to produce more cool tolerant hybrids. One such hybrid is called Alocasia x rubodora. It has some of the size of robusta, and some of the cool tolerance of odora. Everyone who b...

Agave attenuatta got too big what to do
My attenuatta is not four feet tall in the trunk and has a huge head,is it possible to decapitate the head leaving a small trunk to hopefully grow roots? It's getting too big to lug in and out in winter

Re: Colocasia gigantea 'Thai Giant'
They are really hard to get through winter looking good. But will come back from cormels (or little side shoots?) in spring. I thought mine had died over winter so didn't water. In spring the compost had been bone dry for weeks. With an accidental watering lots of new plants appeared. I have given ...

Re: Colocasia gigantea 'Thai Giant'
I did a search on overwintering this plant and was amazed to read a couple of posts suggesting firstly that these should never dry out and more amazingly they should be stored overwinter in water.yes water and this should be changed every day until it stops smelling.I have a few pups on mine so am ...

Re: Heliconia rostrata took minus 6 and looks red and health
Trying to reduce the size of my pics, resized to 600x500 pixels but this is still too big.How many pixels make a kilobite? how do I get down to 600 kb ? which is the maximum size.Windows 7 resize only refers to pixels and not kb in referring to size

Heliconia rostrata took minus 6 and looks red and healthy
Always been under the impression they were delicate, could have avoided many a row if I had known.Mine was cut down to a foot high ,dug up and put in a dustbin in the garage with the roots wrapped in an old towel and a bundle of fleece on top and forgotten.I can't believe it survived the cold period ...

Re: overwinter cyperus papyrus not alternifolia
Mine reached 6 foot within the year. I sowed in september and planted out in May. Yours was definitely papyrus the thick stemmed one about 25mm dia ,the alternifolia is very easy, simply turn upside down the decapitated head ,put it in water and roots form in a few weeks, but papyrus has always grown...
