15 years growth of Washie Washingtonia

That is odd I can grow CIDPs. I suspect it may be the Washingtonian dry out on the sand. Although I have dug them up from a beach in the Canaries. icon_scratch It's all about lack of winter sun for the CIDPs. Neighbours, diagonally opposite, have a large one in the front garden, but is planted abou...

Conservatory replacement causing overwintering issues

I'm having the old Conservatory and Lunar Module replaced with a new white UPVC double glazed bespoke conservatory. We were due to have it completed about now, but due to the complexity of building into an existing space, has slipped. This now means it will be built over the winter months, robbing m...

I am amazed you can grow washies were you live, they just don't thrive here, despite it being warmer than were you live I'm not sure if its the wind or sand they don't like. Just out of interest can you grow CIDPs. Washingtonia robusta originates on the Pacific coast of US and Mexico, so I wouldn't...

Welcome back HTUK

We still have ongoing issues with access, and Aidan has got to the point of looking to change hosting company, as their customer service is second to none... almost non-existent. For a couple of years we hosted ourselves, but the size of databases became too difficult to maintain on home based PCs, ...

It is it's fast growth that enables it to recover quickly. My Trachycarpus still bear the scars of the beast 18 months later. :(

Are you able to give the top any protection these days? or has it got to take its chances?! Mine was doing as well as yours until 2010 when I decided it was big enough to not need protection!! It was protected in 2010 and 2012, but been too big since then. Got clobbered by the 'Beast' on 28th Feb 2...

Dave B's Blog - Winter here we come :-o

How's the Butia doing these days? It was severely damaged in 2010 freeze and took 6 years to recover. Finally in 2016 it started to get decent growth, then along came the 'Beast from the East in Feb/Mar 2018 with -9.9C, then storm Emma slammed into the 'Beast' giving 54 mph gales, BUT at -4.9C This...

Callistemon Bottlebrush

I had a big Bottlebrush, which was planted out, but lost it in the hosepipe ban years 2004/5.
