I always take an interest in the Sottish weather and am appalled at just how bad it is. When I moved to Wales I was concerned it may have been wet, but compared to Scotland its paradise! My partner worked with a Scot who took early retirement and moved back to Scotland. His son went back with him an...

BUMPITY BUMP,
I have bumped this to ask how your Indivisa did this winter I think mine coped better than the common form. When I bought it from Treeseeders he did say they don't mind the cold, looks like he wisent telling porky pies.

Fertilising palms
Wayyyyy ayyyyy man, Geordie,
I just use a 6 month slow release fertiliser in early spring then forget it. Saves all this messing about watering. (except this year).

Winter damage without a doubt, If you think that's bad you should see mine totally brown and desiccate from the wind!!!!!! The palm is fine and is pushing out new green leaves. So no permanent damage done. Looks like wind damage on mine not frost. I'm sure yours will recover.

I think if you want to go bananas and you live in a windy spot like me, you have to go with the shredded leaf look its inevitable and actually, its a more natural look. Take a look at banana plantations hardly any I have seen have pristine leaves.

Does this Trachycarpus look like a good deal?
Hi Dee, I have a Trachycarpus that throws up long leaf storks but measuring it from the brickwork behind, that one just pipes it by 3" and don't forget 3" can mean a lot to a guy. Is it from a private seller or a firm? The reason I ask that it could have been forced but somehow it do...

Yes Bananas are a must, as for the palms, if you want to make them look a bit more jungley in years to come try planting some climbers up the trunks. I personally like passion fruit or a purple leaved grape vines. icon_cheers One of my favourite small trees is a purple leaved Acacia these flower in ...

With your climate you could try a few more palm variates, Trithrinax Cmpestris, Chamaedorea Radicalis, Butia Eriospartha, Jubaea and Jubaea X Butia.

Hello from Garstang, Lancashire
I have visited Garstang but it was a long time ago! I seem to remember they used to have a good antique fair there on a Sunday morning. Do they still have it? I used to drive all the way up there from Worcestershire.  Now the important question what sort of winter low temperatures do you...
