Re: Washingtonia Filifera X Robusta Palm Tree
Kelvin who posts on the EPS had a large washy that he managed to get through winters without damage by using a rain shelter. He then tried one winter to wrap it instead and nearly lost it. I am sure he will not mind me posting a picture of one of his more recent rain covers. I think the one picture...

Good news about the yucca. I looked in my lawn yesterday where it once stood and a new shoot is coming up, which will be potted up as the spot is now occupied by a butyagrus.

Re: Winter So Far
Don I have loads of stuff with nowhere to plant it. (The back garden is also filling up) Its a bad time of the year to take new pictures but I will brave the elements and see if I can take a few shots in the near future. The yucca filifera from the meeting at Steve Jacobs is probably one of the plan...

I lost my washy that was planted out several years ago from rot. The best way in its younger days to prevent this is to build a rain shelter over the top. Just something simple to keep the winter wet off it. Wrapping does not work for these palms.

Re: Winter So Far
Barrie at least we are past the mid winter point. I expect it will get worse befotre it gets better but the evenings should now start to get lighter.
MarkD thanks for the comment, I see you are not far from me.

Photonbucket its only a 1600 and quite econmical. It used to belong to my son who is a boy racer type and he thought he could make it look like a Type-R by changing the badges. His ploy has worked. I suppose I could change it back if he has not chucked the badging it came with and restore my respec...

Barrie Your setting and the exotics look very nice and very seasonal. Its been about 11C here today so pretty mild. I have not been to Vancouver Island but did spend a day a few years ago in Vancouver, on route to the Rocky Mountaineer. At that time I noticed lots of trachys in the area. A differen...

Barrie Thanks for the comment. Unless we have a blast of English winters past and my exotics get nuked there will be a jungle in 10 years time. I was looking at 10 year old pictures of my front garden today and none of the plants were more than 6 foot high. They are taking over now as shown. Don I ...

Winter So Far
Despite the cold spell my lowest temperature has only been about -3.5C this winter. I live in west Hertfordshire and normally cop quite low temperatures when the country shivers, especially as I live near several frost hollows. I am quite well known on other forums for spear pulling on my palms so ...

Nigel I have a stonegate Trachycarpus from you, several nova grown from RPS seed and the 2 imported Golden Lotus princeps. The first 2 would appear to be the same thing with different names. From previous natterings with you the Golden Lotus (the one that looks like a princeps should) comes from a ...
