Re: Colocasia Gigantea Thailand Giant Strain

Oh dear, I hope that this doesn't mean that what they have sent me is NOT in fact the Thai Giant. I will post a pic when I receive it so you can let me know. When will your smaller one be fat enough for Ebay, just in case???? My one will be going on Ebay hopefully in about a month or so ,once it's ...

Borneo Giant going yellow around the egdes

The plant is growing well but this isn't a good sign ,yellow leaves at the edges, wondering if I have overdone the lawn fertiliser. The biggest leaf now is 730 mm which for me is really good, the best I've had so far, anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong. It's growing under glass and watered d...

Re: Colocasia Gigantea Thailand Giant Strain

They do speak English. I might be going back to Germany in few weeks time and buy it for you and myself. If not, I could buy it and my mate would bring it to me from Krautsland. I'll give him a bell and ask when he's gonna visit Poland again. I still believe they'll send it to you. BTW what colocas...

Re: Nepenthes Miranda not pitchering

Orchid bark and sphagnum moss would be a good mix, any chance your bright light is just a bit too bright and moving into a bit more shade could encourage pitchers? They have only had bright light for about a week now as our light is pretty dim,the leaves are red because of the sun exposure so I hav...

Re: Nepenthes Miranda not pitchering

Dim if you arent using fertiliser and are keeping it well watered then maybe you should consider giving it a more shaded position. What sort of soil medium are you using? Maybe try repotting it with something basic like a mix of pine bark and sphagnum. I avoid using both perlite and vermiculite wit...

Re: Nepenthes Miranda not pitchering

Take it to a baseball match? Otherwise, could the soil be too fertile, or too alkaline, perhaps? Are you watering with just rainwater? They produce pitchers to catch insects for nutrient supply, so if it is getting more nutrients than it needs, it might not bother to produce pitchers? Can you...

Re: Nepenthes Miranda not pitchering

Where are you growing it NBD, it could be just a little picky on where it's sited. I'm not growing the miranda but have the Nepenthes lowii here and attached it to my tree fern last year on the shady side and no pitchers grew, had leaves though. In late Summer when I bought it inside it started to ...

How to tell small Dicksonia antarctica from wild ferns in uk

Having lost a number of big Dicksonia antarctica last year I bought a number of smaller ones that look identical to the usual uk ferns that grow wild, without the trunk of course. Is there any distinguishable way to tell them apart ?

Re: Alocasia Gigantea help please

Colocasia root from the top of the rhizome, at the base of a shoot, not Alocasia. Thanks for the reminder, having lost too many alocasia to rot,I'm nervous about giving them any water, hence the waiting until leaf sprout is moving.I've already lost about 100mm off the length of my calidora as ...

Re: Alocasia Gigantea help please

I sprouted my Alocasia macrorrhiza from a rhizome in a prop at 35C, so by hot I'd say maybe 35/40C, not boiling. Normal props are 25C. I have seen bocasajoes pics and wondering how soon after roots would expect to appear,as he does say overnight,I've kept mine going into it's second day now without...

Re: Is there a Dicksonia antarctica booster formula

Hi i have just been looking at palm boosters that increase healthier foliage and quicker height increase. This got me thinking as to if you kind buy a similar formula for Dicksonia antarctica's? Judging by the massive response I imagine the answer is no. I have seen fantastic tree ferns in Australi...

Re: Alocasia Gigantea help please

Im going to use a tropical fishtank heater they are great and come with lil clips and suction cups to attach to the side of a container. I wonder what "hot" is,a fish tank would go up to say 28c which is warmish but the clip I saw said ...hot overnight, which I take to mean hotter than tha...
