I may be wrong, but I'm sure it had something to do with farmers? i.e. they needed the lighter mornings. Farmers here in Canada get up with the daylight and work til sundown ... it doesn't matter what the hour is named, 6 am, 7am or whatever. Carol ... in North America we need uniformity with time ...

I can't recall discussion regarding the differences with crown fiber as it emerges and becomes visible. Here are two examples from my garden, both are Trachycarpus fortunei at roughly the same age. Sabal 'Birmingham'
Here's my Sabal 'Birmingham' that was planted this year. It was in a gallon pot (strap leaves) and was quite root bound so rather than move it up to a larger pot, I planted it.
