Re: ANOTHER cold warning....next week from 10th Dec

Do you think the tides affect it? It can't be a bad thing with a high tide rolling in on a frosty night, as the sea water will be much milder than the air above it. If low tides have coincided with night time frosts then it could spell lower temperatures?

Re: Your daily weather blog -June 2011 onward

I have two red star cordylines, both were fleeced, and two australis one in a pot which i fleeced and the other i left. The bottle brush is large leaved, wish I'd fleeced it now. But I've got lots of other plants and palms to protect.

Ness Gardens got -4C so I'm hoping with any luck as i'm usually higher than them, maybe it wasn't as bad as first feared.. however they have exposure ...

Re: ANOTHER cold warning....next week from 10th Dec

There is definitely something going on with estuary locations over the last 2 weeks, I'm less than a mile from a 2 mile stretch of the Mersey and my temps are ridiculously low when compared to locations around me. Dave seems to have the same issue with the Thames.

Re: Cordyline Red Star

There are also 2 large red stars in Ellesmere Port, stripped to the ground, but are growing from the base. I'm guessing from 2010. But I'd say they weren't protected judging by where are. eg not in gardens that are well cared for. So maybe you may have been unlucky with some plants. On the flip side...

Re: Tomorrow night

I recorded a truly shocking -5.2, and with Chester city as Stephen says getting to -4 maybe that’s not surprising as its only 6 miles away and I live on the edge of town. Its currently -0.6 at the moment and on removing the fleeces I've noticed the palm leaves are now shaded in two tones of green, o...
