Re: Coloured zantadeschia hardiness

This one has never given me a lick of trouble. An added feature are the spotted leaves.

Re: Feijoa sellowiana - has anyone grown this?

I've had one planted out since 2002 and it's survived a one off cold snap of -14°C / 7°F in the winter of 08-09 without issue.

Re: Your daily weather blog -June 2011 onward

Temps here over the past two weeks have been in the mid 80's to low 90'sF (28°C to 33°C).
Hot years will bring temps to near 100°F and that may or may not happen this year. Night lows are comfortable in the 60°F to 65°F (15°C to 18°C) range at this point.

Re: Anyone joining the "not cut my grass for a month" club?

I recently picked up this new John Deere tractor mower for my half acre. It's greatly improved my time management, but with the heat during the past two weeks, the lawn is all but stopped growing and is nearly brown.

Re: Your daily weather blog -June 2011 onward

65.5°F / 18°C shade temp on the south side garden today, 62.2°F / 16.7°C on the north side garden. Mainly sunny and calm today with increasing cloud as the late afternoon wore on. Cooling down now with 52°F / 11°C at 18:10hrs (6:10 pm). I bit surprizing since I thought rain and an incoming front was...

Well done brother! I've largely overlooked potted specimen in my setting, but after looking at this, I'm going to re-think it this year.

Re: Is Brahea Armata really that slow to grow?

These Brahea do best with overnight warm temps or definately mild in a fairly long growing season. Cold limits restricted to short exposure, and rebounding daytime temps. Another example of how cold hardiness ratings alone, can be misleading. Here in the PNW it seemed to be all the rage 8 or 10 year...

Re: stripping palm trunks

Maybe the key to stripping fiber is to not be too aggressive. This past spring (2011) I started one for the first time in nearly 30 years of growing T. fortunei. On this one below, only about 6" was removed. A gradual proccess may be the best approach. Some old trees exibit that habit without o...

Re: "HOW TO GROW colocasias/Xanthosoma bought from a marketV

Average price for mine 12½ cents each (8 for a dollar).
Currency converter shows 1.00 CAD = 0.635409 GBP .... so thats 0.079462 each using GBP.

Here they are using my method a week later. These are pushing already in gallon pots!
