Re: First night wrapping in the garden, enjoyed it, anyone e

My protection plans: Plants which are borderline hardy will have to put up with some frost until the real cold comes. Dicksonias will then get some protection and potted Butias Phoenix canariensis & Cycas will get dragged into the greenouse, which is kept frost free. Ensettes - already in cupboa...

Re: Wireless weather station with rain gauge

The sensors record different temperatures when sited next to each other: there can be a difference of 2 - 3 degrees at say 20 C, with less variation at lower temps. I rang the manufacturer, their customer service department advised t...

You're just lucky you didn't get rabbits Hups. They can be a bit of a problem for some people, or so I'm told.

Re: Canna germination.

Cannas must be one of the easiest plants to grow seed. Good germination rates whichever chitting method you use, they don't seem to suffer from damping off and just keep growing.

Re: How High is your garden?

201m Mick, has anyone ever told you you had your head in the clouds? It seems that I am a mere 61.136m up (or 200.578 feet in english money) what that means I know not. I suppose in a catastrophic flood I would drown before you, unless you can't swim or I had a boat or... crikey! I alr...

Just tried the postcode method, it works fine but I've just gone up another metre. I could do with coming down a bit really.

Re: are these strelitzias

Hi got them from a local shop selling plants. I went back but they had all sold out. Anyway i need to stop being so greedy. I agree. Greed is a sinful vice, Pete. I recommend one of those be sent to me as appropriate penance. I reckon you've got two chances Grenville, 'slim' being the best one :D

Re: How High is your garden?

201m Looks like you've got the highest? Looks that way, it's not a competition I want to win but the various replies make interesting reading. At least I'm not in a frost pocket :D Aaron - if you zoom in on the map in the link and on Kris's first post and click on your location, a little red pointe...

Re: Fremontodendron question

Thanks Jas, I had no idea that this plant was an irritant until you & conifers pointed it out. T Rrex just makes me cough, I only have to brush past it to be badly affected. I've had to drag potted brugs about for one reason or another recently and found that leaves brushing against my face were...

Re: Fremontodendron question

Right, I'll take care - I already have issues with T rex, and recently realised that brugmansia leaves don't agree with me.
