Re: Think I'm ready to show my garden
There is some ophiopogon nigerecens mixed in there but it ain't the fastest grower so I thought I'd fill the gaps with black Petunias for now, only problem is they've done next to nothing. I think the lack of summer maybe to blame as last week in the nice weather they grew more than the last 2 month...

Just found 2 photos from when we moved in, They were copied from the estate agents website. Only early photos I took myself show the garden filled with loads of pots I bought with me & you can't see much of the garden... garden 1.jpg garden 2.jpg I have bad memories of the work involved

Re: Think I'm ready to show my garden
Your garden is better than mine, but i'm on a tight budget so can't afford big tree ferns like that. A lot of the plants were bought over a long period of time, most the Dicksonia antarctica's were kept in pots & dragged under cover for the winter (you wouldn't believe the weight of a six foote...

Re: Think I'm ready to show my garden
The garden looks great, maybe consider some hardy ground ferns to fill around the Dicksonia antarctica. I actually do have some ground ferns in pots to do just that, only problem is I also have a rabbit called Smurf & ferns are his favorites  Smurf.jpg Is the gunnera in the ground? Ive jus...

Think I'm ready to show my garden
Been working on my garden now for 3 years (not including winters) & I think it's finally starting to look like a garden rather than a building site. It's not finished yet but I now have to concentrate my efforts on getting a bedroom turned into a nursery as the mrs is going to be giving birth to...

Re: What's the point of question time?
I agree it's a good site & I can understand the thinking behind the categories but most of the posts are more suited to the main forum, for example, 'Reactions to tropical plant hobby', good subject but does it belong in question time?

What's the point of question time?
I don't get this category, I keep a check on it but almost every topic to me seems like it should be in the main forum. Am I alone in thinking this?

Re: Which new tree fern?
I've wanted a Dealbata for a while, purely because its colour makes it look different to other cyatheas & has a little bit of hardiness. Had a smallish Medullaris for a while before the cold winters & lost it, it was alright but didn't live up to the hype & I don't think I'd have another,...

Re: Garden Design in the 21st Century
When we moved into our current home we knew there was not one square inch of the garden we wanted to keep & therefore had a blank canvass, so once new fencing had gone up all around I took accurate measurements of the garden (it's wider at the bottom than the top) & drew the outline on a lar...

Re: 2012 - The summer that never was?
This is looking much much better, 30-35C temperatures over here. Too bad it's 15 days away... http://www.weerwoord.be/uploads/197201294518.png I can guarantee that this WILL happen, I've got the next 2 weeks off work & have a million jobs to do outside which no doubt won't get done & ...

Re: Any other hardy tree ferns?
Right....young fresh fronds will be damaged by anything lower than -1, older fronds will take -5ish,the trunk will take down to around -9 for short periods when the daytime temps are above freezing for most of the day, In a prolonged freeze that temp drops to around -7 or -8 & if we had another ...

How about Trachelospermum jasminoides? My patio was filled with the gorgeous scent last year & there's millions of flower buds about to open this year
