Re: How much???
I don't think I've bought any plants apart from the hedging plants but spent a couple of grand on wood and landscaping etc.

Re: Agave repotting
Sounds good to me. You want something that will dry out well over winter. Clay all the way.GaryW wrote:John Innes no3 and up to 50% grit depending on whether it's a clay pot, plastic pot and if it's kept outside or not. Plastic pots and multipurpose compost is the worst combination, so avoid !

Re: Which schefflera ?
Anyone know the growth rate of the Rhododendrifolia? Ideally i want it around 6-8 foot to plug a nice gap in my garden border - does it take to heavy pruning? Invasive? Scheffleras are pretty new into gardens but I'm pretty confident they are not invasive. They grow into a tree or large shrub event...

Re: Yorkshire Kris blog: Cow protection
But do I need the the water to drain that quickly away? The water once in the channels means it below the level of the raised beds and all eventually drains down the the lowest point where I have dug a hole which I intend to channel into a ditch/pond.

ConcreteJungle wrote:When is the best time to put maurelli plug plants out?? or let them grow in 3 -5 litre pots first? Currently in small 9cm pots i think.
If they are plugs now then wait until June when they will be good sized plants.

Yours are looking really good Dave.
The ones in the ground, do you expect them to spread and be a permanent feature of the garden or do you move them about each year?

Re: Yorkshire Kris blog March gardening, sleeper video 2
New fence to baffle the wind and to stop the cows eating my plants. My parents house borders field and that is a necessity, cows will eat pretty much anything, including scots pines  Yeah I found that out last year (note the de-leaved Fatsia between the two bamboos on the left. icon_aaargh I s...

Wow, you work fast. In an earlier post you said you wanted the fence up by June, so your over 2 months ahead of schedule!
The plants should hopefully establish well this year and rock in the years to come.

Re: Anyone rent a polytunnel/growing space?
I have an allotment and went down that route with this in mind plus a bit of space to grow edibles. I underestimated how much some people frown upon growing non-edibles though. The latest set of rules are actually now 29 pages long - enough to put anyone off! I did grow some Colocasia "Mamoth&...

Re: Colocasia Pink China survive planted outside.
Mine are similar Kris. The main thing may be the time to bulk up and get going. Seems they are earlier in a sunny position than in shade. Pink China is also one of the earliest to start under glass, so may get a real head start to plant out after the frosts. I have some in the shade that I haven't ...
