Gardeners World Live 2012, who has been?

I went today, it was very good as usual. But I only got a few plants on the list i took with me which were a couple of Abutilon and a Canna Durban, then plenty of plants that weren't on my wish list but because i just fancied them such as a rudbeckia cherry brandy a calla lily and a heuchera. For so...

Re: which is the best type of fargesia robusta?

http://www.uk-bamboos.co.uk/Bamboo%20Stock%20List.htm This is David Whitelea at Matlock. If you click on the bamboo type it will take you to an info page. When i spoke to him last, the website was having a few things altered, so the prices and stock may be slightly different in reality if he hasn't ...

Re: which is the best type of fargesia robusta?

Look at david whitelea nursery website in Matlock or paul whittaker website for info on different robusta there info will be most accurate. David has some good wolong and p.king stock that he has grown at the minute too.
He is more of a supplier than a nursery so the variety he has is huge.

Re: which is the best type of fargesia robusta?

Red sheath, wolong and P. King are all very similar in height and all have larger than normal leaves. Wolong will arch when the foliage gets heavy. I have pingwu which is upright and slightly smaller in height but has slightly smaller leaves. All robusta are good. I like all of them, not much betwee...

Re: Fargesia nitida

Yes the original fargesia nitidia started flowering in 2009 and mine did too last spring. But cultivators have taken seed and produced new generations of it such as fargesia nitidia juizhingu (or however that is supposed to be spelt). So it depends if the bamboo you have bought is old or a new culti...

Re: variegated boos

Yes its a hybrid of sasa and phyllostachys. I'm sure when i was looking it was the most well behaved runner of the variagated bamboos. From what i read it depends on the location as to how well behaved it is. If its got a good water supply, planted in heavy clay, bottom of a slope, wall etc it tends...

Re: Bamboo ID

My first thought was indocalamus tessalatus, but then i saw how tall it was.
My guess would be some sort of sasa or pseudosasa variety or possibly indocalamus latifolius or something. What does everyone else think?

Defo not any phyllostachys, fargesia, chusquea or borinda.

Thank you everyone for all your input. I think it might be worth ago.
I must admit i fell in love with it in the garden centre, so it wasn't too hard to convince me.

Re: Clematis Armandii

I'm spending all this weekend removing 40ft of it from my fences so that I can make repairs. Good grief. So when it says vigorous, they really mean it. It says hardy, but i've also read that its only just hardy. Do you find much of the top growth can die in a harsh winter, or is it quite sheltered ...
