Re: overwinter cyperus papyrus not alternifolia

Good luck with this . Not an easy thing to keep alive over winter. Very easy from seed though . I have grown from seed but it takes a few years to reach any size certainly not in the next year or two.I met someone in South London who had kept this "grass" in his lean to ,let it die down a...

Thai giant flowering and dividing

My colocasia thai giant is dividing up and producing a flower spike, is this flower anything worth saving and seeing, as my instinct is to cut it off.
Does anyone have any ideas on this

Re: How to overwinter large heliconia rostrata

It's too big to come indoors about 6 feet high and three feet wide, this is not the only big plant I need to bring in.It's a matter of priorities.

heat mat advice wanted

I have an alocasia that needs heat,it's not the regular odora ,got it in Florida but it's really struggling over here despite being 6 years old.It needs something to keep it alive in the winter as I don't want it to go dormant,a heat mat would seem to be the answer, just something to cover one 6"...

Re: Heliconia Outdoors?

I have had heliconia rostrata outside in the garden since last April where it still is.Now about 6 feet tall and still producing new leaves.Had no blooms yet but up until now I have always kept it dry in winter, which seemed to be a mistake as it looked a lot better kept watered, although this was ins...

Re: When to start storing musas for winter,is this too early

[media][/ I am interested mainly ,in storing ensete ventricosum ,the wild ethiopean variety .I found the maurelliis are a lot easier to keep.Maurellii seems to be the adopted name of the ensete vent, which is all green with a red rib.I have tried over many years to keep these without success, even kee...

When to start storing musas for winter,is this too early

Wondering if this is too early to store for winter, just cut one ensete vent ,the wild one not maurelli down from 12 feet as it won't fit in the house anywhere.I know the ethiopeans store them for months but no idea how they do it.The maurellis pull through after a fashion but I always lose these hug...

How to overwinter large heliconia rostrata

Is anyone familiar with doing this, usually it comes in the house and this year can't be done. Can it be cut down to the ground and stored,in which case how will that affect future flowering,it is about 6 feet high and about 2 feet across, the whole clump that is. Does anyone have any suggestions,I kno...

NBD, Is it actually a Borneo Mac, or a Mac Borneo Giant. With LariAnn she could have crossed them so difficult to know for sure.
Hi I actually bought it as a Mac Borneo . I didn't realise there were two variations Borneo Mac and Mac Borneo Giant.Hope it's not going to flower .

Borneo mac suddenly stopped growing stood still for a month

My Borneo Mac that I've had about 7 years now from Lari Ann has suddenly come to a halt after producing a huge leaf and half way onto the second one it has stood still for about 6 weeks now.Never had that happen before, the roots look good as I took it out of the pot to have a look,in the pic it's th...

Re: Borneo Giant going yellow around the egdes

Kata, Borneo Giant is a type of Alocasia macrorrhiza. NBT if it is really a Borneo Giant, you have done better with it than anyone I know. The problems I had was it got bigger, to about 30cm by August and as soon as it started to cool off, they got smaller again. Mine eventually faded away in 2008 ...
