Our brug is currently sat in the shed with a bit of hessian over it (not fully wrapped up). Its looking a bit sad for itself in particular it looks very dry. Should we water it or is it better to over winter it dry?

I've got a single brugmansia cutting, and want to make sure it roots. Having never done this before, what's the most guaranteed way to root one? I don't want to lose this cutting as it was difficult to get.
