Re: Clocks Change -Resetting the forum from BST to GMT

Moving time is ridiculous. It should stay the same all year round. icon_thumright Yes, but this is the correct time (GMT). The clocks are adjusted for summer time, to shift some of the avaiable daylight into the evenings where it is more useful than it is at 3am. We are just returning to normal now...

Re: Must haves

That's true Dave but I think most people plant a garden for its overall effect and to use and enjoy, rather than how any individual plant will photograph. Surely photographs are not that high on the agenda when planning a garden. In my opinion, all the best gardens I have seen posted on the forums h...

Re: Must haves

What are plants you feel MUST be in your landscape to give it a true jungle feel? I think the most important thing to give a "true jungle feel" is to eliminate sight of fencing/boundary as far as possible. This creates the illusion of being in the thick of the vegetation. Where this is ha...

Re: do fatsia's sucker

Both my plain green Fatias japonicas are multi stemmed and have more stems than they did when I planted them. I assumed that they where suckers. The only other option coujld be that they sprouted from seeds that where alrady in the pot because I don't think my seed has ever ripened before the frost ...

Re: Ryde in Bloom- I won!! :-)

Congratulations for a job well done. I think more of us should enter these competitions next summer and see how many we can pull off. As Simba said, an HTUK hall of fame would be good, where we can see all the winners and runners-up together.

Re: Musella preview and palm light reaction.

Kris, I have noticed a lot of plants following the sun in your videos. Also leaves seam to rise and fall in sychronisation with the day light, as the pressure in the cells fluctuate. Colocasia are good at following the sun, I have noticed this in my own garden, especially when the leaves are concave...

Re: Late season pics

not affected by wind or by slugs and snails I found it susceptible to Red Spider Mite though, in hot summers. The only plant I have had that has suffered from Red Spider Mite when planted outside. Hmmm. Don't think I have ever had that problem. Sounds nasty though :-S Does it affect growth and/or a...

Re: Aldi Alocasia Polly

I had one for a few years in the bathroom window and then the kitchen window. They flower quite regularly and sucker well. It was very easy to keep but a martyr to Red Spider Mite which is why I eventually let it go.

I don't think mine had those ruffles edges though. More narrow sagitate.

Re: Late season pics

It reminds me, I must replace my lasiocarpa. It survived well for about 3 years but was finnished off in winter 09/10 with fleece, water bottles and an up-turned black pot. Did yours flower in those 3 years? Hoping to get mine through this winter, I think I might get a flower next season if I do. I...

Re: Help required

None of those sound ideal. Darkness is not a requirement but if it is warm enought to grow it will need light, so I would say the spare bedroom with radiator off would be the best option. Also if it is warm enough for growth, it will be better off potted than dry.

I have found that my fronds always emerge brown after the snow has thawed, even though they seems to remain green after subzero temperatures prior to the snowfall.

Kris, I like how something just disappears about 2/3 of the way through (Canna musaefolia?).

Re: Help identifying some seedlings :)

Enterolobium cyclocarpum is related to Acacia which also look very similar and fold thier leaves in the evening but if Viking has sown Albizia julibrisin seeds, my money is on that.

Could the climber in pic 1 be parthenocissus henryana?
