It's NOT f f f f f f freeeeezing.

We seem to have shaken the frost bug here (for now) as frost was threatening for the past 10 days or so. I don't think too much frost acually occured but it was chilly with temps around 0 celcius (give or take a degree) overnight and daytime was 4 or 5 celcius during that stretch. Forecasts are call...

Are these temperature readings you're experiencing there, way out of wack? I woulda figured temps like -5c to -7c would be more likely in Scandinavia, particularly this early for the balmy British Isles.

I have a half acre here and I doubt there's enough plant material here to have devistating hybridization. Even my Eucalypts seem to flower at different times. I'd imagine it to be more of a problem where alot of the same genus where growing and in a more benign climate than mine.

Right off the hop I began with exotics in 1981. I was in charge of some house plants my mother left for me when my parents went to live overseas for a few years. I picked up Sunsets "New Western Garden Book" for information about my new babysitting adventure. I soon discovered there was mu...

We had the same weather (although not windy) a couple of days ago. Now the forecast calls for several mainly clear and sunny days with cool temps, 5 or 6 celcius daytime and a degree or 2 under the freezing mark as a low.

Well Nigel, at least you haven't had to awaken to this ... http://www.postimage.org/aV1ibMgi.jpg Yes, five inches of the white stuff here and more falling as I type. Forecasters are calling for a change to rain later with temps aproaching 15C tomorrow. It's really going to be a mess!!! Cheers, Barrie.

With any luck the polar air will settle over Siberia and miss both of our areas.
Ya, 14c to 15c forecast for Monday as a Pineapple Express rolls through.

bodster is right. These will in many cases be root hardy and grow the following season. They're late to start new growth and subsequently never gain in size to flower properly the following season. This repeated yearly cycle will be their undoing.

"The temps are back up, and one of my Brugs outside is still flowering." Ah yes ... the coming weekend should take care of that with snow in the forecast and slightly below freezing temps. Then comes Monday with a Pineapple Express and a mild onshore flow. I guess if this inverse pattern ...

Also we have drought when they get Pinapple expresses  These "Pineapple Express" systems are very wet and push in from the Hawaiian Islands. The temps are generally quite mild but the rain totals are stupid. Luckily I live on a hill and rain water accumulations are not a factor. My d...

I haven't been following the threads regarding the comparison of the weather here and Carol's location, Pacific North West  Has it always been inverse all year round or only during autumn and winter :?: Some claim that the polar air mass shift in winter has this inverse effect on each of thes...

"cheapage" ? I'm unfamiliar with that term. What does it mean? Cheers, Barrie. An error, it should be seepage. A place where water comes out of the ground. And seepagebogs for example. Regards, Alexander  Thanks Alexander! For a while I was racking my brain thinking "cheapage&qu...
