Hi guys, any advice on kick starting these back into life. I was given a tiny pot of this last autumn and I grew it on a bit on a south facing window in a warm room.It died back about a month ago even though temps were still around 20 degs c inside. The tiny rhizomes seem ok still with long fleshy roots attached. Is the key heat to start it off again like placing it on a heat bench or does it need a cooler spell prior to re potting and back onto the sunny warm window sill? Nige

I brought one from ebay end of last year, had it in my heated prop for 2 months and nothing then tried it on my sunniest windowsill and still nothing, so i have now binned it, but there was no rhizome when i checked it just a load of old dead roots. i think i was ripped off to be honest

This plant as far as i know is naturally deciduous and needs a cool resting period during the winter. It does need heat to get it started but i think that just putting it outside in a warm spot and being patient is the key. I have always found cautleya easy to grow even in shade and they come back every year given good drainage and a mulch. They can be grown in full sun as long as the soil is moist. If growing in a pot keep the compost barely moist to avoid rotting during its resting period.

Thanks,thought that might be the case with this one.As its been inside in the warm all winter what would you suggest? Has been in a room all winter at approx 20 degs,should i just put it somewhere a bit cooler or in the fridge type cold for a while? Do you dry store them over winter cold but frost free and then re pot them and put them somewhere warm then like gingers and cannas? I am aware its a loose type of ginger but my hedychiums have been out in a greenhouse all winter and now all re shooting in the house in the warm. So in short do I seriously cool in the fridge or just current outside temps for however long then back onto sunny window to kickstart? Nige

I would treat them like a Hedychium in the winter and just put them outside somewhere warm and be patient now.

Had a look at mine in the ground yesterday, not sprouting yet but having a prod around the rhizome it feels fairly solid, so hoping it will.

Mine came from Crug Farm Plants. It's a bit early to say yet but I'll be surpised if it doesn't come back with a vengence. It' become quite invasive in the raised bed I have it planted in.
