I don't think it would like our winters but was just wondering if anyone had tried growing this:

Hi,

I asked the same thing,

http://www.hardytropicals.co.uk/forum/v ... e+Wrightii

I don't think it has been grown by many people.

I was tempted to buy one

But have since decided I've got way too many plants now already.

I've got a few on the go at the moment although as seedlings, they are quite slow. Unfortunately, the adult plants don't seem to be a great deal faster so you need a fair bit of patience with this. A sharply drained, slightly acidic compost (3 parts ericaceous/1 part multi-purpose/ 1 part perlite) seems to suit them quite well and they certainly appreciate plenty of moisture and humidity. This species should be able to withstand a very occasional (maybe once or twice at most in winter), short-lived (ie no more than an hour or so) drop to -5C , but by UK standards it is not a 'hardy' palm and is best kept in a frost-free or moderately heated greenhouse.

Thanks - I think I'll give it a miss!

I have a few seed grown tiddlers here, a few years old now but look nothing more than a yearling, they are so slow.
Seem to cope with cold ok in a cold greenhouse.

I've had about three goes at this from seed but haven't managed to get one to germinate yet. Reading this, I probably haven't missed out on too much.
