Chicken advice

Post by jonny »

I have just obtained three chickens which i am very pleased with as i am now enjoying plenty of fresh eggs but i am reluctant to let them out of their run for fear of damage to my garden! I have lots of bamboos which i thought would probably be safe which are underplanted with ferns ,Aspidistra and epimedium. Will they just ruin the lot?

Could you not just use chicken wire around the borders?

Looking on the bright side, at least you'll have plenty of fertilizer. :D

lol! Cute hens and gardening are not a good combination! I would create a nice roomy home for them, free range under control, if you get my drift. Best of luck anyway!
...I have enough trouble here with wood pigeons sitting on my tree ferns and small birds tugging at the fibres for nesting material!

Have to agree with the others I'm afraid! I used to have a chook and a couple of ducks and they wrecked and ate anything they could find. Probably, as already said, better to give them a spacious enclosure and still be able to enjoy your garden as given a free reign they will scratch around and turn it all to mud in the search for bugs and worms etc!
