Probably not an exotic plant of any kind, but my better half purchased this plant for 50p at a local pet store. She figured it looked "different".
Can anyone id this plant for me? The people running the store said it was an indoor lily of some kind, although I`ve never heard of an indoor variety before.

Re: ID please
I reckon they look more like Nerine with that papery sheath around the leaf bases.
Re: ID please
Or Hippeastrum?
Re: ID please
Or Amaryllis belladonna... I think it's going to be impossible to be sure till it flowers...
Re: ID please
a very lanky Clivia maniata?
edit: I know its not, I have one myself

Re: ID please
My first thought was Crinum, but could be one of a number of plants. If it is either a Nerine or one of the hardier Crinums, then these can both be left in the ground.
Keep us updated when it flowers.

Re: ID please
if it's Nerine bowdenii (the commonest sort) it would be reasonably hardy - but most of the Nerines (especially the red ones) are too tender to grow outside in all but the very mildest bits of the British Isles.
Re: ID please
I would actually go with the Amaryllis idea, this seems most likely in my opinion. There are many plants that look so similar though!
Re: ID please
Your right Pete, bowdenii is what I have here and is growing now. Whatever it is, it was a good buy for 50p.

Re: ID please
Should Nerine foliage be up yet though? I thought it sprouted up toward mid-summer?

It looks much bigger than my nerines that have popped up a couple of months ago outside. My money is on a crinium
