Plant ID please...

Post by musabasjoos »

Hi Guys,

My lilies have been absolutely ruined by those bloody red beetles this year as well as last year. So they are going and I think I've found a possible replacement for them.

I spotted these in a neighbors garden. Sorry about the quality of my phone camera.

Anybody know what these are?

Peruvian Lily Alstroemeria aurea. Nice flowers, but also an invasive weed almost impossible to get rid of!

They aren't all as invasive as A aurea. Look for some of the named varieties, often sold as 'Princess Lilies' which come in various colours and with larger flowers and are a bit better behaved. Also the older Alstroemeria 'Ligtu Hybrids' come in various colours and again are not as invasive as the species.

Pete, Ive only just spotted your reply. I have ordered Alstroemeria aurea which after the info posted here, it will go in a pot. Ive also ordered Alstroemeria pssitacina, which will go in the ground.
