heavy snow in New Zealand
heavy snow in New Zealand
just read from the news there have been galeforce winds coming from south-west bringing extreme cold weather to NZ, getting mixture of thunderstorms, tornadoes & seeing rare snowfall near Auckland in the north and the south island practically frozen solid. looks like they're getting a bitter taste of what we had gone through not long ago!
i'd imagine all the tropical plants over there will be suffering badly..

Re: heavy snow in New Zealand
Looks like a nasty spell of weather and set to get colder! The mountains in the south west actually get some of the heaviest snowfall in the world hence it has some of the fastest moving glaciers!

Re: heavy snow in New Zealand
Just looked on Wunderground where it is 4am in NZ, and mountains of South Island are between 0 and 4C with North Island generally 13 to 15C. That would not seem that cold to me
Best regards
Dave

Re: heavy snow in New Zealand
All relative. But looks cold to me. Even colder high up as the mountains are over 10000 feet!

Yes Dave,
I like WG, the only one I will take notice of. I have the small Icon on my desktop. Currently in Wigan its quite warm at 17C - 7 whatever that means lol
I just read the first number which is 17. They don't work in C or F just that tiniest 0 which I don't think is on the keyboard...is it?

Re: heavy snow in New Zealand
I'm getting quite confused by this
A quick look on the the BBC weather website doesn't seem to show particularly harsh weather down there, at least in the more northern locations.
It was then that I noticed a headline at the top of the page saying that NZ was experiencing some harsh conditions at the moment. A short video by Peter Gibbs said that it was about to turn even colder

Re: heavy snow in New Zealand
The BBC site isn't great for this country let alone NZ. From looking around the net NZ is suffering (for them) some cold weather.

Well I haven't checked any websites, but being as my sister lives just northof Auckland thought she'd know what the weathers actually like
Spoke to her this morning(whatsapp again)and it's currently piffing down, local slang I believe for raining
Don't have to believe me on that though, just my word for it

This is the map for today 07:26 BST, and they are currently 11 hours ahead, so 18:26 in Aukland. Bear in mind this is 1 1/2 hours after dark in midwinter.
Best regards
Dave

Re: heavy snow in New Zealand
Hi everyone,
It depends on where you live, how cold it has been.
I live in Christchurch, its MID-WINTER here and the mean daily high temp here in the last week has been between 8°-13°c ( So no; not very cold )
The coldest temp so far this winter where i live; about -2.0°c
At this very moment it is: 2.7°c at 11:28pm.
And yes there is very heavy snowfalls inland in the high country and the mountain regions.
Quite a few sheep have been killed by the snow.
