Huge cheap Phoenix at Morrisons

Post by Ian Cooke »

Just happened to pass a Morrisons which had quite a plant sale area outside. This included some impressive looking Phoenix palms at £45. Fronds were wrapped up but the total height was at least 8ft although the actual crown height of the plant probably no more than 18". Nevertheless when unwrapped I think they would be quite impressive.

Reminds me of some palms I saw in a modern garden a few years back. They were short plants but displayed in the top of 6ft lengths of steel ducting - result a palm 'tree' with a metal stem and fronds above head height. Bit surrealist but very effective. I think if these Morrison's palms could be used in this way they would be fantastic!

Now where can I get some ducting................

I went hunting for one at Morrisons yesterday, couldn't find any.

Bit confused as I've never seen a Morrisons sell anything like large plants. Where would they keep them? in the fruit and veg aisles?

The Bulwell Morrisons has an adjoining outdoor area as a garden centre..was there today-about 7 or 8 of the large Phoenix canariensis_CIDP's.
