Thanks all for the kind words .... and likewise, there are many of you whose horticultural endeavours have inspired us ... :D

So besides doing some clean up in the garden (dam 'boo leaves seem to just keep piling up on the ground) .... potting out some of the bedding to kick start filling out the borders in the coming months .... been doing some shopping ... At nearly 70cm trunk, and 1.5m from base of soil to tallest leaf ... didnt think they were too expensive at £49 .... :) Popped over to the Palm Centre today, and picked up 2 of these Waggies....

As always, I couldnt resist looking around and picking up a couple of other tropical specimens ready for the warmer times ... A nice 'Lady Palm' (Rhapis Excelsa) .... something to go under the tree ferns or a shadier spot once the temps warm up ... a little scruffy but pretty impressive given its been overwintered this year in a cold greenhouse !
Rhapis Excelsa.jpg
And a 'Bamboo Palm' (Chamaedorea Microspadix) ..... again something for the understory, although having had a smaller specimen last year that struggled, going to place this on in a different location with a little more indirect light and hopefully achieve better results ...
Chamaedorea Microspadix.jpg
Also awaiting an order to arrive with a good haul of some new Aspidistra Elatior 'Asahi' .... sample pic below, but they'll be arriving as bare root stock ... will post actual pic's when they arrive .... pretty stunning foliage I think .... let's see how they fare in north london
Aspidistra Elatior Asahi.jpg
Having had both the standard Aspidistra and the variegated variety planted out with no protection for 2 or 3 years now, this plant is as tough as they say (you can see a clump in the first picture, just behind the waggie trunk) .... and absolutely gives a real tropical feel to those hard to fill spots in deep shade or poor soil ....

Anyways .... time to go dig some holes to get the waggies in the ground .... icon_salut

(Thanks for the 'bump' reminder Kris .... garden has taken a back seat for too long)

2014 will hopefully be slightly less manic and afford more jungle time :-) .... if this mild weather continues, I'll get some pic's up after late winter clean up ..... and this years plans are already on the drawing board ;-)

Hi Cordy .... hey have survived, but the bare root plants supplied take a couple of years to settle (if they are like their variegated cousins) so nothing to show as yet, certainly nothing like the example picture .... but will keep an eye on them and snap a pic as soon as they are ...

Been checking after this weeks winds... and most things are still standing ! Hopefully get out there today and start some tidying up, but meantime, here's a quick early morning piccie from the back of the garden ....
From Back.jpg
Hopefully get some more pic's later today .... but the machete needs to come out methinks !
