frosty morning.

Post by Yorkshire Kris »

Checked the greenhouse temp at7am this morning it read 5.5degrees! Quickly went out to turn heater on and it was freezing. Just drove to train station and car temp read 3! Got to the station to find a covering of frost on the platform.! Sure it will go very soon but time to get your heaters in place.

I looked out this morning at 7.30 and there is frost on my neighbours shed roof!
Temp is reading zero and I haven't dug anything up or protected anything because I wasn't expecting it!! :(

My neighbour scraped off the very slightest frost from his car windscreen this morning and I'm on the Essex/London border. There was no frost anywhere else that I can see. :?

Had my first single figure minimum for October this morning (7.5c) -a late event for me.
Aside from an 8c and 9c mid -September Autumn chilling has not really started here yet.
However, I reckon tomorrow's minimum is likely to be around 5c which with still air and clear skies will give the first frost of the season 100 yards away on the greenspace at the bottom of the hill.

While I seldom have my first frost in the garden this early (usually another month) I always find that first covering of white around my early morning jog run a little too close for comfort. It signals the: "I've got to start putting everything away for the winter" time :(
