I have Tillandsia usneoides here from Wilmington, North Carolina. In that area it can get -8 C in winter for a short period. And maybe even colder.

Well its in an unheated polytunnel but when a real frost will occur I will move it to a warmer place.

Some bromeliads are quite fast from seed. I've grown Puyas, Dyckias & Hechtias from seed. Puya mirabilis can flower in it's first year. I managed to get some Ochagavia carnea seedlings on Ebay last year and they are already nice plants.

I am trying:
Aechmea recurvata
Bilbergia nutans var.
Puya venusta
Puya mirabilis
Dyckia 'cherry coke'
Dyckia 'sulphurea'
Hetchia epigna
Fascicularia bicolor
Fascicularia bicolor canaliculata

I tried to pick the most hardy ones and not the indoor ones.
