Sort of plant that if I can't buy one it's worth raising a batch from seed
Anyone heard of Macho Mocha Mangave?
Re: Anyone heard of Macho Mocha Mangave?
Ive had a few, they seem a bit more temperamental than agave's in my care, the leaves are more succulents like ....and ive had a few rot back to the stem...
maybe i'm not looking after them well,
lovely plants though, and unusual mottled colours on the leaves. i shall persist
mine are potted and go out in the late spring, til early autimn ish, certainly late september, its in the greenhouse i have problems so maybe they dont like dampness too much

Re: Anyone heard of Macho Mocha Mangave?
they are quite fast growing compared to some and the agave in the cross is celsii is which pretty tough in the right conditions.hardy exotics in cornwall have a huge celsii clump growing outside on a bank.very impresive.
the nearest to that here of a decent size is gonzaloi which is quite similar when its green and spotty. smurnan on here normally carries macho mocha in stock

First time I've seen a picture of a big one. Very nice too. I'm growing Manfreda maculosa (the other side of this intergenetic hybrid) from seed. I think Macho Mocha might be a bit too choice and expensive to risk outside but it would be interesting to try if Manfreda x Agave seed could be easliy obtained.
