I was struggling to get hold of a sanguinea cutting this year. Managed to get hold of this one on ebay which I thought was a bit overpriced and concerned maybe it wasn't rooted but took a gamble anyway.

Potted up and a month in the greenhouse.

I've read they flower either end of the growing season Autumn/Spring and like cool conditions, which drew me to it.

I've always fancied the colour, but was put off by my assumption. Jungle says:#

"A stunning small 4ft to 12ft shrub from Peru and the Andes with 7" soft leaves and up to 1ft long flowers that are shaded from yellow to bright orange at the mouth. It likes cool conditions and therefore ideally suited to planting outdoors during our relatively cool summers. Also flowers in a frost free cold conservatory during early spring."

which sounds perfect, thanks. Added to my "Couldn't afford not to have it" list !

It doesn't necessarily have a flower bud in the first 'Y' but it is a distinct fork, rather than a main stem and a side shoot.

Thanks, I've cut back to just below the Y to encourage height so we'll see how it goes.

Some decent brug info at the site below, particularly the page I linked too:

http://ibrugs.com/Resources/RootingBrugmansia.aspx

I usually research purchases before I make them, however this doesn't always work with impulse plant buys
