Super Dwarf Cavendish trying to kill itself

This was growing very nicely then almost overnight all the lower leaves fell of revealing a huge split in the base which has been pouring water out. very strange

mayble it will live, maybe it will leak to death but at least there are lots of pups!

I have seen this a few times on all my dwarf cavendish that are growing well and tightly confined - with the exception of little prince.

I remove most of the leaves, all the pups and repot (usually in a slightly bigger pot) and they seem to sort themselves out.

It appears to me that their growth rate exceeds the available space to expand and the plant fails, that's just an assumption though.

I don't have any Dwarf Cavs or Super Dwarf Cavs now. They just don't like winter and a dramatic decline in April has always been the result. If they don't grow over winter, they can't handle it, and the damage does not become apparent until they do try to grow in spring. Rotting at the base of the trunk is the most common method of dying.
