i thought Archontophoenix alexandrae or Archontophoenix cunninghamiana but the fronds are not right, ie the leaflets have too great a distance between them. the trunk reminds me of either of the aforemetioned but the fronds are too much like a kentia, strange dilema. the guys in the shop had no idea.

as for the monkey lol, my daughter put him in my nana rack, my 50p bootfair one. i have lots of palm tat lol. ill have to compile some pics of it all, clocks, paintings, plates, keyrings, yes i am sad but hey a palm is a palm. :)

Hi Mixie,

The first pic of the leaves I would have said Kentia or Howea, but the base of the palm has stumped me

It is difficult for me to describe as a laymen, but the base seems to be putting on around 3 inches of vertical height for every new leaf, and the old leaf bases clasp the entire circumference of the palm well above the previous leaf base, this gives the impression this will be a very slender trunked palm. Almost like Chamaedorea microspadix (bamboo palm)
Most trunking palms have a much lower vertical growth per leaf. Of couse the way it has been treated have have some affect on the growth pattern.

Sorry, can't help more than that. It will be interesting to see how fast it grows.

Edit: - corrected spellings DB

It does look a close match Mixie, and also fits with what the trunk suggested to me. Archontopheonix (spellings) has a much thicker trunk.

Hi Mixie,

It was the thin trunk that reminded me of C. microspadix, looks a good palm but I take it hopelessly tender.
