Thanks
Here are a few pictures of the winter protection : http://www.hardytropicals.co.uk/forum/v ... 20&t=15039
The Dicksonia , and palms like Washingtonia, Phoenix and Butia are protected with fleece, plastic foil and a heating cable. Without heating its impossible to grow them here the last 4 winters.Yorkshire Kris wrote:

Just look at those Orchids, beautiful. How do they cope in your Winters, is there anything special you have to do in the way of protection?

Re: Shusui's garden blog
The Cypripediums are completly hardy, they get no protection.
a few species (like C. henry) growing very early and could be damaged by late night frost. Then they get protected by pine needles , but for the most species is this not neccesary
I grow them in a well drained mix of 90% vulca and 10% potting soil.

Re: Shusui's garden blog
Love those hardy Orchids Shusui, I'm going to have to study them a bit, and see if I can get some to grow for me, and try to replicate the conditions you grow them under.

Re: Shusui's garden blog
Thankyou for all the pictures Shusui! It was a great insight into your garden, well done for protecting all of your musa's and your techniques for palms is something to aspire too.
I like your technique of hanging pots from the wire mesh on the side of your glasshouse, definately makes the best use of space!
