Post by lee1125 »

This has been in my garden for years now and i have no idea what it is, does anyone know?

It used to be about as tall as the fence but i had to prune it down after the last bad winter as it was all frost damaged.

Dont really know anything about it apart from i like the flowers

Ditto to Crinodendron hookerianum; from southern Chile.

I've seen these look very sick when people grow these in alkaline soil.

Agree with all the others - Crinodendron hookerianum, Chilean lantern tree. Acid soil only, prefers a little shade further east than Plymouth. Quite easy to propogate by semi ripe cuttings taken after flowering - that's how I got mine. Reasonably hardy though suffered a bit the previous two winters prior to the last.
