Phoenix canariensis_CIDP potted left unprotected

Post by MikeC »

Although I covered my other palms and plants and moved some to my garage, I forgot about my Phoenix canariensis_CIDP that is a DIY shed sale item bought a couple of years ago.

Anyway, here's a couple of photos of it. Temps went down to around -3 and it was not protected in any way.

Looks unscathed but will be interesting to see how it fares if the pot froze.

-3 is ok

if the roots freeze you wont know until spring when they try to suck up water again and choke

Surely It didn't freeze long enough to freeze the pot! Did it? I wouldn't do it to many times though. icon_thumright

I don't know for sure but I suspect the pot didn't freeze, but the palm did take a direct hit of about -3 on a couple of nights.

I suspect it will be fine, but it's interesting to see how it goes.

Mine was in the shed at -7 last year and the pot froze for a couple of days. It's alive but it only just scraped through, shouldn't think it will be around next year.
