How big is your back garden?

Ive wondered for a while now how big some members gardens actually are.
It can be hard to judge by pics, but im guessing most are actually smaller than they appear.
Is hard to judge how much to actually plant in my garden, as obviously everything will grow in time, it would be good to see how big some of the more matured gardens are.
When you look at the likes of Dave Browns garden, which is stunning and heavily planted it is hard to judge the actual size of the plot.

Btw Kristen is banned from joining in as it will make me feel quite ill..........

My garden is 51' long, by 23' wide.

It would be good to add a picture of your garden as well as listing the size. I'd add one but my computer is not working at the moment. Might add one at a later date! :EDIT-DONE!

Mine is about 70ft from the patio doors to the back fence and 24ft wide.

Tiny, about 30 ft by 30 ft, standard for a fairly modern hyper expensive house.

I'm on a half acre and I'd wager the back portion would be about ΒΌ acre.

Cheers, Barrie.

About 50'X50'. I wish it were bigger. My house is a big victorian villa like the other three on my side of the road. Lots of similar houses in the district all with conservation orders on them and all with big gardens - except our little stretch that has the smallest of any of them.

I retract my wishes when I realise that the position, aspect and size of my small garden compared to the size of the house gives me by far and away the best micro-climate of them all.

I honestly don;t know.. the lot is 1.5 acres but the house takes up some and most of it is the back. I will have to measure off the front and back gardens to find out myself.

My back garden is about 90ft by 32ft but my front garden is quite small as nearly half is a drive so it is only 20ft x20ft planting area. The last 30ft of my back garden is my veg plot though and houses two of my three greenhouses so only 60ft is planted up with ornamentals.

"The list of palms I grow is quite long but I will write some off the top of my head. 5 types of butia and a couple of hybrids, jubaea x butia and butia x jubaea both f1 crosses, 4 types of chamaerops including 7 cerfiera 2 of them with 30 cm of trunk and 3 vulcano, 3 types of chamadorea, 3 types of phoenix palms, 5 jubaea one of them over 5ft and two just a bit smaller, 3 types of livistona , 2 types of trithrinax , 2 plants of rapidophillium hystrix, 3 types of sabal, 3 types of brahea , 2 types of washingtonia and a hybrid and just about every kind of trachycarpus. I have probably forgot one or two but I am still collecting and I am getting more adventurous so looking into getting a syagrus and some parajubaea as well as others. Only one or two of the plants mentioned are seedlings so take up a lot of space so what is not planted will eventually be planted to make room in one of my three greenhouses".

Like Rod says WOW....We want pics we want pics we want pics....

Freebird I will be happy to put some picks up of my up and coming project I am doing on my front garden but my palm collection and garden is not as impressive as it sounds as nearly all of them are in pots and I only have 5 palms permanently planted planted out at the moment. The rest are all in my greenhouses or on the patio outside my back door. I have been gardening since I was 14 and am now 30 so although I have been gardening a while and I work as a self employed gardener and landscaper I only bought the house two years ago, I brought as many plants as I could from my old place but my garden is only being turned into what I want it to look like for the last 6 months and with what the weather has been like you can imagine how much I have got done. The first year was spent ripping out the old plants and removing 20 ton of 9inch thick 50 year old concrete patio and a full length concrete path and digging out foundations for a new patio in orange clay then putting up my greenhouse, new fences and getting in a season of veg growing, buliding compost heaps and soil improvement . I have planted quite a few plants but they are more the hardy backbone plants like magnolia, azalea, clematis to cover fences, pieris , skimmia, spotted laurel (edit forgot to add japanese acer I have 4) and trained fruit trees around the fences on the veg patch it is only now I am starting to get ready to plant the less hardy plants I have got. I love buying and collecting plants though and just to give you an example of an average week, two days ago I ordered another palm and it gets delivered monday or tuesday, yesterday I received a delivery of plants (gingers, colocasia and a couple of dahlia) and I am awaiting another delivery of plants anytime now as well, I am forever sowing seed and propagating plants, I live and breath gardening because it is my job as well as my hobby but never get anywhere near as much time as I would like to do my own garden. So as a result my garden is a work in progress and still very young so not yet a spectacular masterpiece and I am a perfectionist so I would be embarrassed to show it until I feel it is up to scratch. Sorry for the long post,I will start a blog of the front garden which will start as soon as the weather is a bit better.
