long term plan is for a bit of a canopy over the Dicksonia antarctica when palm gets taller, it's my most south facing part of garden so it may appreciate some dappled shade.

Good job m8!!.I think that is a great size to buy them if you can get them at the right money, i dont think you can ever have enough waggy/fortunei in the garden as its a proven palm in the british garden!, when they start flowering & are really established they look awesome. You wont see the true beauty for a couple of years until its grew it's own crown which will be aclimatized to your own garden. karl.

Looks superb!! It will damage the unfurling fronds though, but a small price to pay.

Yeah its a Musa Basjoo, It might only be me but I quite like the idea of having to fight my way into the shed past my Trachycarpus and musa I think i've finally lost it

Look at pic two Karl, that smaller Trachycarpus has been there since I moved in, its rich dark green, with pretty good leaf size, and a decent head, I guess that can only be a good thing for the Triffid.

I think it was a case of I bought it before I knew where I was going to put it! Spent hours, brew in hand, pottering up and down, surveying possible spots and thinking of the long term pro's and con's. Whole west border was out as didnt want future shadow cast on my end of day sun, top of steps was another possible spot but the Ikea Trachycarpus is doing so well there, so this just seemed perfect, albeit some Dicksonia antarctica + Trachycarpus leaf on leaf action

Its another super stiff leaved Trachycarpus, with pale undersides i've found, would definitely buy again

I want to buy some more of Nigel`s Trachies. 2 more for the back garden and at least one for the front garden which is currently just a gravel area with no planting at all. I`m planning on removing some of that gravel and building a large raised bed just for a large palm and some other exotics. But i`m torn between buying T fortunes or Waggies. I bought a large Waggie off him last year which i love , but even that got a bit battered recently by gale force winds.
That Trachycarpus looks lovely Cordy and it`s definitely the stiffer leaved variety, but i`m wondering if it would look just as good in 3 or 4 years time if it was planted in my windy garden??? Waggies are just sooooo much dearer.

Andy, i think it's just down to personal choice!, i alsp have some of nigels large waggies which i think look great, but my wife still prefers the look of the fortunei!, the battered look can sometimes add to the tropical look of your garden?,in my opinion waggy's are so much slower growing & neither will keep that lush green look indefinetly unless kept under glass. karl.
