I know the plant but have forgotten the name, I think its himalayan honeysuckle.

I think you have to chop them back to the floor at the end of the year.

I have had one of these in my garden for years - looks lovely when its in flower.
I prune mine right down to the base every spring but still gets back up to about 6 foot by the end of the year.
This was mine last year.

4ft is a small one, 6-7ft sounds more like it. they can self seed everywhere and I mean everywhere!fern Rob wrote:I have seen them grow to 4ft tall.
the berries, when really ripe, are worth squashing in your hand. Messy I know, but a tremendous smell of caramel will stay with you all day.

the common name is flowering shrimp bush, it has an over powering buttery smell when you cut it, personally I think it smells horrible!
