I have to admit that I find it hard to distinguish between palms especially chamaerops, trachycarpus and washingtonia. I know that the chamaerops has spines down the 'stalk' of the frond and the Trachycarpus doesn't. I suppose if I saw all of them together I would see the difference, but I would n't bet on it.
How do you tell them apart? If there's already a thread explaining just point the way.

Re: Palm help
Your like me Jo,
I know Phoenix canariensis_CIDP, I know the Trachicarpus and thats a mind field on its own. Loads of varieties of Trachicarpus x this variety etc..
Look here:
http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/qsearch.do?pla ... uickSearch
Those are all Trachicarpus families just to confuse us even more.
chamaerops; my way of telling that one is they have fur on them which I hate.
Just add palms to search here Jo.

Re: Palm help
Thanks Kata. It's telling the difference between the 3 I mentioned as someone has offered me some seedlings and doesn't know the name of the palm. I'll have a root around Kew and see what I can find.
Re: Palm help
Does this help Jo?
This is one of mine (above) a seedling really.
A Washingtonia.
And a chamaerops.
