Edging a curved lawn

Post by Tom2006 »

I want/need to edge my lawn to keep it tidy. What cheap but decent looking methods are there please?

I just use a strimmer with a rotating head. Cheaper option is long handle edging shears.

EDIT, I think I may have got the wrong end of the stick

QVC had a belting tool some weeks ago, I am waiting for it to come back but could be next summer...I really wanted it as well.

It had a straight but sharp blade on a long handle, It made lovely lawn edges.

You can buy a lawn edger.

This look ok.

I think sunken bricks around a lawn edge take some beating, smart looking and you can mow straight over them so no need to do the edging.

Thanks DB,

Do we have to cement them in?

I do my lawn edges in brick straight on the firmed ground (after stripping the turf) no foundations leave about a fingers width between them then grout using your hands (wear washing up gloves) should you ever change your mind a couple of taps with a mallet and you can move them, but it takes the weight of walking and mowers fine

Same here, straight on flat ground and tap down with a mallet.

Bricks as edging but even then grass will grow over them so i use a strimmer with rotating head to trim the 'wispy bits'. Keeps a nice neat edge.

I do like the idea of a brick edge to the lawn, and one day I'll do that myself, but I keep changing the size and shape of my borders, so at the moment I just mow mine, and 'slice' round the edges with a spade to tidy the edges, saves time, and I get to expand the borders when the missus isn,t watching so I can grow more plants

I also like the idea of the brick edging but have never done anything like that before. How do you do it? It will take me ages which is also a problem.
