Gardeners World.... what's going on ??????
Historically, I have found the programme rather boring and mundane, but the last 3 weeks not only have I watched it all the way through, but quite enjoyed it...... have I gone soft

I did try watching it but after a couple of episodes I thought to myself that this must be what death is like so I stopped watching it and logged on to something exciting like HARDY TROPICALS.

I think the lack of work has affected you, adversely... GW has become a source of stimulation.
I admit to watching it as well, and haven't felt so despondent afterwards so maybe the format has improved.
Have to say poxy gladioli & crocosmia though............. the ferns were nicer.
Re: Gardeners World.... what's going on ??????
I've just bought 70 gladioli bulbs so i found it interesting.

You surprise me!
Not you bag, or so I thought, lets see how they come up.
I admit to buying Tree Lilies and some Black Lilies, but they are something my husband likes..

Loved the bit about crocosmia
Lucifer is my all time favourite. They seemed to be saying that it should be in bloom now but mine bloomed from June to July and has now finished and set seed.It is pot grown in a 66cm pot and is over 4 foot tall by 5 foot wide .maybe pot grown is different from ground planted ?

Crocosmia is normally mid June and finished by early July here, but they did have northern gardens. It was interesting as they backed up their article with an expert, showing the parents of the crosses, and pics of in situ in South Africa.
Best regards

There is a Crocosmia "Late Lucifer" variety, I think found by Christo Lloyd of Great Dixter, but I've never been able to find plants for sale.
Lots of varieties at Trecanna Nursery

Lucifer is an early flowering one, finished by mid july up here. The rest flower in august/september.Dave Brown wrote:Crocosmia is normally mid June and finished by early July here, but they did have northern gardens. Interesting Kris, I'll have to look them upYorkshire Kris wrote:

I noticed the red of Lucifer even saturated the TV cameras. I have found it a very difficult flower to photograph, as the saturation blots out much of the detail. I really like the effect of Lucifer in front of Colocasia
One thing they didn't cover.... how do you stop them falling over.
Best regards

To stop them falling over, plant surrounded by shrubs half their height.
By the way, never plant that orange vigorous one coz they spread and seed like crazy.
I have another variety which is exactly the shape of Lucifer in flower but the orange colour. Its in flower now but I don't know its name. Like Kris said, Lucifer flowered a month ago up here.

I have never watched GW have I missed anything?
Regards Crocosmia, the plant centre where I do my voluntary work had a batch of Emily Mckenzie in this week, a late flowering orange with a mahogany throat, individually more orchid like, a striking plant which I might invest in a couple.

That was one they showed on the programme, and I made a mental note to look out for it.Clive60 wrote: Regards Crocosmia, the plant centre where I do my voluntary work had a batch of Emily Mckenzie in this week, a late flowering orange with a mahogany throat, individually more orchid like, a striking plant which I might invest in a couple.
