Garden pests of 2013?
Garden pests of 2013?
What have been your main garden pests of 2013?
In my garden:
Slugs - low population and damage. Opposite from last year.
Vine Weevil - getting lots of these, I am killing a handful every night now. Just removed a Fatsia with no roots left...filled with larvae, I should have spotted the wilting! Just used Provado in all the pots.
Caterpillars - lots of damage and I have removed hundreds this year, really shredded a lot of leaves.

Re: Garden pests of 2013?
In the garden Red Spider Mite and Mealy bug, never had this outside until this year. It is the continuing desiccating NE winds and drought.
Best regards
Dave

Nowt. All the birds seem to eat all the pests.Literally have dozens of em,all sorts from little jobs to big jobs.No slugs this year, weird.
Re: Garden pests of 2013?
Early on Sparrows were a problem on the Bamboo breaking the new soft canes and then stripping the new leaves. The new canes are now bare at the top and spoilt the look of them.
Red Spider Mite has been a major problem, I have never seen it on so many plants outside, Cocosmia, Ipomea, Thunbergia and Oleander, hardly any slugs or snails so that is a relief.

Caterpillars have been really bad for me this year. My brugsmania have been totally shredded so have not grown at all this year. Really fed up because this was the first time I have had them
Re: Garden pests of 2013?
Cabbage whites leaving eggs by the time I found them they are already Caterpillars,
Slugs and snails but if I find any they go on the neighbours garage roof for the birds.
As for Vine Weavil, don't know till I remove the Ensete from the pot.
Flounder take the dog and a bag out for walks, maybe up to four times a day. Feed it only one meal, they don't neesd more than that. We fed our Border Collie only once a day.

Red Spider - Mealy Bugs AND the biggest pest is caterpillars. Those little beggars which stick the leaves together and munch away in comfort.
Re: Garden pests of 2013?
Tortrix moth caterpillars, the ones that roll leaves up and happily munch away out of sight, and red spider mite.
