Time to batten down the hatches!

Looks like we are going to get a bit of a blow tonight. Already a 40 foot oak tree has been blown over to the rear of my house and has crushed one of the neighbours sailboats. The combination of wet soft ground , strong winds and the leaves still on the trees making much more resistance has taken its toll. Indeed its not been a good year all round with trees blowing down. The house opposite me on the other side of the estuary had one of his two 30 foot Trackies blown over this spring. I do hope my eucalyptus stays up They have a nasty habit of snapping off in strong winds.

Just a little breezy here in North Cheshire,but so far nothing to worry about
I have spent most of the day removing leaves from the drains and draging all the large pots against the house wall,locking all the paddock gates and securing the large wooden gates on my drive with a 6 inch by 15 foot horizontal brace....so my gates now look like the archetypal american fort...but its still better than watching them being blown near horizontal by 60 mph winds

well you'll be relieved to here that North Cheshire isn't in the firing line for strong winds... this won't hit this far north, but potentially heavy rain.

I have laid some of my plants down to stop them getting damaged .

Anyone North of Oxford and west of Hull, really doesn't need to worry, it won't be affecting you in terms of wind. Rain is the bigger issue tomorrow, where flooding could, and will occur.

Unofficial rumour that St Martins in Isles of Scilly recorded a gust of 108mph. If this is true, it's worrying for Tresco Abbey Gardens?

Edit: It's ok it may have been a glitch, the owner of the weather station has corrected it.

Temperature has risen (now 16.2C at 00.57) and the wind is up, but only to about 38kph and seems to have remained stable for the past hour. Radar shows that the majority of the depression has tracked east and we're just catching the tail end. It's a windy night, but so far nothing spectacular.

The wind and rain are quite violent outside at the moment.

My poor palm trees are taking a hell of a battering and my Basjoos are completley shredded.

And I still think the worst is yet to come.

Its looks like and sounds like a typhoon outside but i am not going out to check on any damage till morning.

I think its going to be a hell of a clean up in my garden....
