Fatsia flower stalk?
Fatsia flower stalk?
This is probs and easy question for the vast majority on here, but here goes.... First time my Fatsia has flowered and I'm unsure what to do after its finished! Do you cut the stalk off or let it just die back naturally. Thanks
Re: Fatsia flower stalk?
I have done both and it's made no difference, they just send up new growing points from each side.
Re: Fatsia flower stalk?
If it flowers and starts to develop fruit, keep it.
If it gets frosted and turns brown before the flowers are fully out, there's a high risk that the mushy frost-damaged part will rot and spread the rot down into the main stem, killing part or all of the branch. So if this happens, prune out the flowerhead before the rot spreads.

Re: Fatsia flower stalk?
I often just snap them off but really doesn't matter. unless it is a very young plant even if they get frosted and rot it wouldn't do any real harm to the plant as a worst case scenario.
Re: Fatsia flower stalk?
Mine has got one for the first this year.
Most wanted list - Any Young Trachycarpus and/or fern.
Re: Fatsia flower stalk?
