For anybody who's scared of this wind, just imagine how those poor little spiders must be feeling.

And for anybody scared of spiders, they can now fly.

I think the cover survived, the poly house lifted and then the cover came right off. When the poly house was lifted up and moved across the garden it pushed all the tree ferns over that was inside it. I have been outside and pulled in as many of the tree ferns as possible in to the house out if the worst of the storm. It was sad to watch my new 3ft Medullaris literally get tumbled across the garden, I could not go out and save it, at the same time about 30+ tiles came flying of the neighbours roofs.
Fence panels have been blown down. Guttering torn off walls, ridge tiles flying off the roof and trees falling down all within a stones threw.
And a gate blown off.
It really as damaged my street and garden.

I hate winds of tree-damaging strength ... undos many hours of hard work, and steals precious years of growing time, in a trice.
The Dicksonia antarctica that blew over I managed to re plant. It's the Cyatheas that took the battering.

Serious damage along the sea fronts on Wirral today, West Kirby was worst hit, with walls being toppled, cars being written off, metal rain guards being snapped in two, houses completely flooded, people windows and doors smashed through, and an entire garden destroyed as the soil was excavated as well as very severe damage to a sailing club.. never seen anything like it. On the otherside New Brighton seafront was flooded, with a car being tossed into the marine lake.

It was real windy here this afternoon but no damage sounds like it was much worse around the coastal areas and over towards the east I think we had it easy here in comparison

Sorry to read about your tree ferns Rob sounds like you has a real battering in Sheffield :ahhh!:

I bet it was not far off that here to rob.
5 fence panels gone. GH about 4 panes gone.
Trachycarpus in the front took a battering but wrapped it up last night.
Not sure about rest of the garden as it was too dark to see.
I've a day off tomorrow gues what I'll be doing?.

Not much wind in Southampton yet and hardly any rain so far but It might get worse later. :(

I think the strongest wind so far has only been about force 3 which is just making little waves on Southampton water. :D

We may miss this storm but the St denys Phoenix canariensis_CIDP is tied up and so is my Syagrus palm in my side entrance. :D

Good luck everyone else and keep safe. icon_thumleft

Missed it all down here although a bit windy at times. I feel for you if you have suffered damage, some exotics are slow growers and have had a lot of care and time given to them, it's soul destroying to see them trashed.
