I think I know what it is, but the story behind it makes me want to make sure..

yes looks like you're right, not what I thought, but it looks like you're right. I found it on heathland near here, looks like someone might have discarded some flowers :wink:

Agree with Salal. It is naturalised (and invasive) in some parts of Britain, the seeds are dispersed by birds so can spread a long way. Heathland is the right habitat, too; like most other Ericaceae, it needs acid soil.
